Zelenskiy Challenges Putin with Open Letter Amid War Talks
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy sent an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin proposing a meeting to end the war, warning that Kyiv is prepared to fight if necessary. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed Putin has reviewed the letter, and Putin may address it during an economic forum.
In an unexpected diplomatic gesture, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has issued an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, proposing a face-to-face meeting to discuss terms for ending the ongoing war. The open letter emphasized Ukraine's readiness to continue fighting should diplomatic efforts falter.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed to Izvestia that the letter had been passed on to Putin. 'Yes, overnight we already handed over the written version,' Peskov stated. He added that Putin has reviewed the letter and is fully briefed on its contents.
Speculation is high as to how Putin might respond. There are indications that he may address the letter during his speech at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum. Zelenskiy, in his letter, also took a jab at Putin, suggesting that many Russians were growing weary of both the war and Putin's leadership.
