Dead Puppets to Adapt Storm Boy

Dead Puppets, Brisbane-based theatre company, after a series of performances in London, are ready to adapt Storm Boy. And for this, they are creating dozens of puppet pelicans, including Mr Percival from plywood, aluminium, brass and steel rods.

David Morton, the artistic director said some of the hero pelicans will have more than 1,200 pieces in them. Morton said multiple versions of the animals had to be created to ensure there were spare puppets. "There are three key character puppets and we are building each of those on three different scales. And then we are building a full double set so there are 18 in total." The Dead Puppets will also be creating fairy penguins, crayfish and giant groper fish.

Nicholas Paine, the company's executive producer said the past year has been hectic and rewarding. The Dead Puppets Society became the first theatre production to perform inside London's Natural History Museum with its show The Wider Earth, a Charles Darwin story. Morton and Paine said they were honoured with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex attending the gala performance on Darwin's birthday.
