The Ghaziabad administration on Thursday created 13 more sectors in Loni area, adjacent to North East Delhi, sharply raising the deployment of senior officials for stricter enforcement of lockdown provisions and to curb to-and-fro movement of people from the national capital to check the coronavirus spread. Ghaziabad District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey issued the order a day after dividing the municipal area into four zones and eight sectors, deputing special officers for all these divisions to enforce the lockdown more effectively.

The district magistrate also wrote to the Delhi government, urging it to enforce the sector scheme in North East Delhi and Shahdara and depute special officers to enforce the lockdown provisions more effectively. Unless the sector scheme is not implemented in all these areas, all the exercise to curb the COVID-19 spread would prove futile, he said.

In each sector a team of doctors would visit at least 100 families and would take stock of their health, he said, adding a team of 55 sanitation workers too has been pressed into service to look after the cleanliness in 55 wards of the Loni municipality area. In a bid dissuade people for loitering and undertaking unnecessary movement to and from the adjoining North East Delhi, the Ghaziabad district administration fined 150 vehicles, recovering Rs 10,000 from their owners and drivers.

The district magistrate also ordered officials to strictly enforce the lockdown order against spitting in public and not wearing face mask. Four fire tenders were also deployed for sanitization of various localities apart from sixty persons deployed for sanitizing the area through spray machines.

The DM also ordered deployment of a zonal magistrate in each zone and one sector magistrate at the top of each sector has closer monitoring of the area. He said a police officer, a doctor, and a paramedical staff would accompany every sector magistrate.

Loni Deputy Collector and CO have been designated as incident commanders or incharge of municipality area, he said. The supply of essential commodities like milk, vegetables, and groceries would be ensured by these two officers, Pandey said, adding vendors could enter the municipality area with valid passes issued to them by authorities concerned.

Markets would open as per the roster fixed by the administration, he said. Pandey said that all arrangements regarding sanitization work would be enhanced and awareness campaign about COVID-19 would be carried out. No loitering would be tolerated and action would be taken for violations of lockdown norms, he said.
