Umar Khalid was in a program with me. When we were at a tea stall, a man wearing a white shirt came near, he shook and then fired. Khalid fell due to the shock and the bullet got out of him. We tried to catch him but he fired several times in the air and he managed to escape. At JNU, his partner and former student leader Kanhaiya Kumar have said that it is an attempt to suppress the voice, said an eyewitness.
Shehla Rashid tweeted,
Shocking and highly condemnable: a guy attacked Umar Khalid from behind and tried to shoot him in Delhi. This is the direct result of hatred whipped up by Republic TV & other hate media. I spoke to Umar. He's okay, but we should be very very worried about his safety.
