Woman commits suicide in Shamli

A 22-year-old woman has allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at her house in Shamli district of Uttar Pradesh, police said Friday.

She was a resident of Shyamla village under the Jhinjhana police station and the reason as to why she took the extreme step is yet to be ascertained, Circle Officer Rajesh Tiwari said.

After the woman consumed poison, she was rushed to the hospital where doctors declared her dead, Tiwari said.

The woman's father lodged a complaint and said she committed suicide over some "unidentified cause".

The body was sent for postmortem and investigation into the case is on, police said.
