A 55-year-old woman and her daughter-in-law were electrocuted after they came in contact with a live electric wire on the roof of their house, police said Wednesday.

Her husband was also injured in the mishap in Barmer district, they said.

He suffered electric shocks while trying to save the women, they said, adding he was referred to a hospital in Jodhpur for treatment.

The police said Maya Kanwar, 30, came in contact with the wire when she was hanging clothes on an iron wire on the rooftop of her house.

Hearing her screams, her mother-in-law Raja Devi, 55, and father-in-law Padam Singh rushed to save her but they themselves came in contact with the wire.

All three were rushed to a local hospital where both the women were declared "brought dead" while Singh was referred to a Jodhpur hospital after primary treatment, the police said.

The police have registered a case under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code to ascertain the criminal culpability in the incident, they said.
