Woman commits suicide in Rajasthan, relatives allege dowry demands

A 25-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide Sunday morning by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at her home in Rajasthan's Jhalawar district, police said.

Her parents have alleged that her in-laws demanded dowry and tortured her to death.

The woman killed herself Sunday morning, Station House Officer at Jhalrapatan Police Station Ramesh Chandra said, adding she was immediately rushed to SRG hospital in Jhalawar where doctors declared her brought dead.

Police have lodged a case against her in-laws under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and initiated an investigation into the matter.

The body was Sunday afternoon handed over to the family members after post-mortem, The SHO said.
