Punjab cabinet minister Baljit Kaur announced on Monday that the state government has sanctioned Rs 34 crore for beneficiaries under the state's Ashirwad scheme.
According to Kaur, the financial assistance of Rs 51,000 is provided for the marriage or remarriage of women from Scheduled Castes (SC), Backward Classes (BC), and Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). The recent approval covers 6,786 beneficiaries.
She specified that Rs 27.32 crore has been earmarked for 5,357 SC beneficiaries, while Rs 7.28 crore will benefit 1,429 BC and EWS individuals for the fiscal year 2023-24. The funds will be directly deposited into the beneficiaries' bank accounts.
Eligibility for the scheme requires applicants to be permanent residents of Punjab, belong to the SC, BC, or EWS, have an annual family income less than Rs 32,790, and fall below the poverty line. Assistance extends to up to two daughters per eligible family.
