Goa CM Inspects Landslide-Hit Highway, Orders School Closures Amid Heavy Rains

Goa CM Pramod Sawant inspected the landslide-affected Mumbai-Goa Highway. Schools from pre-primary to 12th grade are closed due to heavy rains. Restoration efforts are underway and 80 stranded individuals have been rescued.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant conducted an inspection of the Mumbai-Goa National Highway 66 on Wednesday, following a landslide caused by heavy rains in Malpem. Speaking to ANI, Sawant detailed the government's response to the landslide, which included coordination with Nitin Gadkari and the involvement of IIT Mumbai for inquiries.

The Chief Minister disclosed that contractors are actively engaged in restoration work. Earlier on Sunday, Sawant had announced the closure of all schools from pre-primary to 12th standard due to an alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

However, government offices remain operational. Additionally, Sawant confirmed that 80 people stranded at a waterfall have been rescued by emergency service teams. The CM urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel due to the heavy rainfall.
