Bihar Appoints First Transgender Sub-Inspector: A Milestone for Inclusivity

In a historic move towards inclusivity, Bihar has appointed Manvi Madhu Kashyap as its first transgender Sub-Inspector of Police. Kashyap, speaking to ANI, extended her gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and other supporters, acknowledging her challenging journey. 'For a transgender to come here is very difficult and I have struggled a lot to come here. I am very happy that I am finally at this stage of life,' she said.

Kashyap also highlighted initial rejections from educational institutes due to prejudiced concerns about her presence affecting the environment. 'Despite repeated denials, after getting admission to this institution, my life improved drastically,' she noted. She credited government assistance and familial support for her success. 'My parents, brothers, and sisters stayed with me during the tough days. They are the reason why I am here today,' Kashyap added.

On June 12, in a separate achievement for the transgender community, the Social Welfare Department of Tripura requested all District Magistrates to establish transgender protection cells, serving as grievance redressal centres. Lalfaktlinga Hragnchal, Director of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department, stated, 'These cells will look after the safety and security-related issues of the people from the LGBTQIA+ community.' The state Transgender Welfare Board also aims to ensure the welfare and empowerment of the community.
