Biden Administration Unveils $2 Billion EV Manufacturing Grants

The Biden administration is set to distribute almost $2 billion in grants aimed at revitalizing and expanding electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and assembly across eight states, notably including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia—key presidential battlegrounds.

The Energy Department will allocate $1.7 billion to create or preserve thousands of union jobs, reinforcing auto-centric communities that have historically powered the U.S. economy, the White House announced Thursday. In addition to the battlegrounds, these grants will cover EV facilities in Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, and Virginia.

This comprehensive initiative spans various aspects of the automotive supply chain, from electric motorcycles and school buses to hybrid powertrains and heavy-duty commercial truck batteries. 'Building a clean energy economy can and should be a win-win for union autoworkers and automakers,' President Joe Biden stated, emphasizing his commitment to securing an American-made future for the auto industry by American union workers.
