Union Agriculture Minister Pledges Support to Bihar's Farmers

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Thursday assured Bihar Agriculture Minister Mangal Pande of unwavering support to the state's farmers, advocating for coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state to drive agricultural growth.
In a meeting at Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi, Chouhan committed to revisiting funding allocations under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) and the National Food Security Mission, aiming to strengthen Bihar's agricultural projects. He encouraged the submission of new proposals to bolster these efforts, as per an official statement.
During the discussions, Chouhan stressed the importance of an uninterrupted supply of kharif and rabi seeds, highlighting the need for advanced planning. The talks included a comprehensive review of the Agriculture Ministry's various schemes and initiatives.
The Bihar Agriculture Minister underscored the necessity of enhancing Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across the state, with Chouhan committing to evaluate their operational efficiency. Pande also highlighted Bihar's potential in maize and 'makhana' production, seeking central assistance to fully exploit these opportunities.
Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Ramnath Thakur and senior officials from both central and state agriculture and horticulture departments attended the meeting.
