In a major breakthrough, Shimla District Police, under the command of SDPO Theog Sidhartha, have apprehended a significant drug peddler, seizing 1.5kg of opium in the process. The operation was an extension of ongoing investigations in the Matiana area.

According to Superintendent of Shimla Police, Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi, the arrest was the result of coordinated efforts among Theog Sub-divisional Police Officer Sidhartha Sharma, Sub Inspector Ankush, and SHO Theog. The detained individual, identified as Ravi Giri from Nepal but residing in Narkanda, stands accused under Section 29 of the NDPS Act. Gandhi characterized Giri as a major kingpin in the opium drug network, with financial dealings worth Rs 3.4 crore traced back to him since 2022. The investigation aims to trace and seize all illicit assets connected to him.

Gandhi emphasized the methodical approach of the police in tracking the illegal proceeds from drug trafficking. Further interrogation uncovered extensive operations that Giri was allegedly running. The accused will be produced in court as investigations continue. Gandhi highlighted the impact of drug-related activities in the region and the police's stringent actions, including the arrest of over 1000 drug peddlers in the past 15 months.

Gandhi elaborated on the efforts to dismantle the drug supply chain, stating, "We have traced backward linkages and identified connections within the illegal trade. Further, our operations have napped another individual involved in the drug trade who was active in recent times." The police are determined to investigate how many more individuals and sums of drug money are involved.

"The accused, Ravi Giri, operates in Theog and resides in Narkanda. Theog Sub-divisional Police Officer Sidhartha Sharma and his team of sub-inspectors have commendably tackled this challenge, aiming to dismantle the drug supply network and enforce stringent actions against those involved," Gandhi added.
