Two Indian soldiers lost their lives while undertaking a critical repair of military equipment in Ladakh on Thursday, according to the Indian Army. The soldiers, Cfn Sankara Rao Gottapu and HAV Shahnawaz Ahmad Bhat, sustained fatal injuries during the operation.

On July 11, 2024, around 10:00 AM, Cfn Gottapu was gravely injured due to an accidental component burst. HAV Bhat also sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Leh for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical teams, both soldiers succumbed to their injuries, a statement from the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army said.

The Indian Army expressed deep regret for the loss of its brave soldiers and extended condolences to their grieving families. The GOC Fire and Fury Corps and all ranks saluted the Bravehearts' supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

In related news, on July 8, five soldiers were killed in a terrorist ambush in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. In response, multiple security forces, including the CISF, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir police personnel, have been deployed to secure the area, especially as the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims transit the region.

Since June 9, terror attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, with additional injuries reported among civilians and security personnel.
