Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju has announced that the Indian government will observe June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to ensure that an incident like the Emergency imposed in 1975 is never repeated. Lashing out at Congress, Rijiju accused the party of 'murdering' the Constitution back in 1975, calling their recent actions 'drama'.

'We can never forget how the Constitution was murdered on the night of June 25, 1975. We have to set an example so that what Congress did is not repeated. It is our duty to save the Constitution,' Rijiju told ANI, stressing the importance of protecting the Constitution given by Dr. BR Ambedkar.

The announcement came shortly after the government issued a gazette notification, officially recognizing June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas'. The date will serve as a tribute to those who endured the 'inhuman pain' of the Emergency, and a reminder of the resilience of Indian democracy. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi both expressed strong support for the move, with Modi calling the Emergency a 'dark phase of Indian history'.
