Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was discharged from AIIMS Delhi after undergoing treatment for back pain, according to a hospital statement made on Saturday. Singh, who turned 73 on Wednesday, was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday morning.

Rajnath Singh, a Member of Parliament from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is currently serving his second term as the head of the Ministry of Defence. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first term starting in 2014, Singh also held the Union Home Minister portfolio.

Singh's extensive political career includes serving in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly from 1977-1980 and 2001-2003. He was the Minister of Education for Uttar Pradesh between 1991 and 1992 and later became the Minister of Surface Transport in the Union Cabinet from 1999 to 2000. His tenure as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh spanned from 2000 to 2002, and he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in the Union Cabinet in 2003. Rajnath Singh was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha in 2009 and served on the Committee on Ethics in the same year. (ANI)
