Delhi University has established a committee to investigate the vandalism at the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) office. However, the absence of CCTV cameras on the premises is expected to complicate the probe.

The committee, which was formed on Monday, will depend on witness testimonies, security guards' accounts, and other tangible evidence to ascertain the details of the incident, according to DU Proctor Rajni Abbi, who is chairing the committee. Abbi mentioned that there are no cameras currently installed and recommended that the installation of cameras be included in their report.

The committee, also comprising Professor Ranjan Kumar Tripathi, Professor Surender Kumar, and Professor Geeta Sahare, is tasked with investigating the incident that occurred on the night of July 13-14. Proctor Abbi reported that around 3:45 am on Saturday, security personnel alerted her about a break-in at the DUSU office, leading to the formation of the inquiry committee.

RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) accused members of the NSUI, including DUSU Vice President Abhi Dahiya, of carrying out the vandalism. An FIR has been registered, and the police and forensic teams have collected evidence. Initial findings indicate significant damage to the president's office, a broken door, and a shattered mirror in the joint secretary's office.

Abbi stated that the committee aims to present a preliminary report within two days and a final report within five. The investigation seeks to uncover the circumstances of the vandalism amid rising tensions between the two student factions. ABVP alleged that around 40 NSUI members attacked the office, causing extensive damage, including the destruction of an idol of Lord Ram and a water dispenser.

In response, the NSUI accused the ABVP of diverting attention from serious allegations regarding fake degrees among their members. Last week, the DUSU Vice President claimed that Dedha used fraudulent mark sheets for his admission, which Dedha has denied.
