Power Outage Hits Upper Assam, Gradual Restoration Underway

A grid collapse triggered a widespread power outage across five upper Assam districts and parts of another on Monday evening, according to an official statement. Restoration efforts were initiated promptly, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirming later that power had been fully restored.
"Power transmission through the Grid station in Mariani has been restored. Consequently, power supply has been reinstated in Upper Assam," Sarma announced on X.
A representative from the Assam Electricity Grid Corporation (AEGCL) disclosed that the outage impacted the upper Assam districts on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra, specifically affecting Jorhat, Charaideo, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia, along with parts of Golaghat beyond Kaziranga. Efforts to restore power in a few remaining pockets with errors are ongoing.
