The Delhi High Court on Tuesday directed a joint inspection and called for a comprehensive report following a plea from the Bar Council of Delhi (BCD). The BCD has alleged that its office in the Sirifort Institutional area was inundated with water and garbage during June rains due to an uncleaned drain.

Justice Sanjeev Narula instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Jal Board to conduct the inspection of the area where the BCD office is located and to file a detailed report within a week. The court also directed the civic bodies to ensure such incidents do not reoccur, stating that occurrences like this tarnish Delhi's aspirations of being a world-class city.

The bench mandated that the inspection should be carried out by engineers not below the rank of Superintendent Engineer, with the Honorary Secretary of the BCD in attendance. The lawyers' body had approached the High Court, reporting that their office was severely flooded during the heavy rains on the night of June 27-28, causing significant damage to many important files. Senior advocate Ramesh Gupta told the court that the flooding occurred due to a clogged drain and that numerous complaints to address the issue had been ignored. (ANI)
