The proposed planning law will bolster economic growth and allow local consent to influence how projects are built, not if they are built. "My ministers will get Britain building, including through planning reform, to accelerate the delivery of high-quality infrastructure and housing," King Charles stated, reading the government's agenda.

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill aims to expedite national grid upgrades, simplify major infrastructure projects, and reform compensation rules to prevent excessive payouts. Additionally, a new framework for devolution will grant more powers to metropolitan mayors and local combined authorities, enhancing their control over planning, transport, and job networks. This devolution is seen as a key driver of economic growth.
