Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express Derailment: Relief Announced After Tragic Accident

Following the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express, which resulted in two fatalities, North Eastern Railway announced ex-gratia compensations for the victims' families. Emergency response teams are actively involved in rescue operations, with a helpline established for those affected.

In the aftermath of the tragic Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailment, which took two lives and left several injured, North Eastern Railway General Manager Saumya Mathur announced significant ex-gratia payments. A sum of Rs 10 lakh will be granted to the families of the deceased, while Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 50,000 will be provided to the seriously injured and injured individuals, respectively.

General Manager Mathur, speaking with ANI, confirmed the extent of the casualties, noting, "So far, two deaths have been reported and 31 injured. All the injured have been sent to hospitals, and the remaining passengers will continue their journey through relief trains from Mankapur." Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his shock and concern over the accident.

Emergency response teams were quickly mobilized following the incident, with North Eastern Railway CPRO Pankaj Singh reporting that rescue operations are ongoing. "The train derailed between Motiganj and Dhilai, resulting in seven injuries, six minor and two fatalities. Our priority is to complete the rescue operation promptly to resume normal train services." A helpline number and a special train for affected passengers have been arranged.
