Gonda Train Derailment: Restoration Efforts and Inquiry Underway

North Eastern Railways GM Saumya Mathur announced ongoing restoration work for the upline, with expected completion by evening. An official inquiry and relief efforts are underway following the Gonda train accident, which resulted in three deaths and numerous injuries.

In the wake of the Gonda train derailment, North Eastern Railways General Manager Saumya Mathur confirmed that restoration work is in progress, with the upline expected to be operational within a few hours. 'We are working to ensure the entire section is restored by this evening,' Mathur told ANI on Friday.

Speaking on the inquiry, Mathur stated, 'The railway conducts an inquiry after each incident. The Commissioner of Railway Safety will also conduct an inquiry. Let the process be completed before we make any conclusions.' Meanwhile, Aditi Umrao, Project Director at the Relief Commissioner Office, emphasized the swift relief efforts by the NDRF and SDRF teams.

The Railways announced the cancellation of four Ayodhya Dham-Mankapur special trains scheduled for July 19, 2024. The derailment, which occurred near Gonda station, has resulted in three fatalities and around 30 injuries. Immediate response teams, including medical staff and senior railway officials, were deployed to the site. A high-level inquiry in addition to the CRS investigation has been ordered to determine the cause of the accident.
