Tragedy in Karnataka: House Collapse Claims Lives Amid Intense Rains

Three people, including two children, died after a house wall collapsed due to heavy rains in Madapura village, Karnataka. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai urged the government to ensure treatment for the injured and compensate the bereaved families. The closure of National Highway 275 has been announced due to landslide risks.

Three individuals, including two children, lost their lives when a wall of a house collapsed amid intense rainfall in Madapura village, located in Karnataka's Shigaon Assembly Constituency, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai announced.

'As a result of the continuous rain in Haveri district, it is deeply saddening to hear that three people, including two children, perished after a house wall collapsed in Madapura village of Savanur taluk of Shigaon Assembly Constituency,' Bommai stated in a post on 'X' on Friday.

Bommai called on the Karnataka government to ensure that those injured receive medical treatment. He said, 'Three more people were seriously injured in this incident and the state government should provide proper treatment to them. I request that the family of the deceased be given adequate compensation from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.' He added, 'May the Lord grant peace to the souls of the deceased and a speedy recovery to the injured.'

The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Dakshina Kannada district has announced the closure of National Highway 275 between Sampaje and Madikeri from July 18 to July 22, daily from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM, due to risks of landslides and rock falls. This precautionary measure applies to all vehicles except emergency services and disaster-related work.

Authorities have advised vehicles traveling to Mysuru, Bengaluru, and other locations via Dakshina Kannada district to take alternative routes via Charmadi Ghat Kotigehara. The district administration's aim is to ensure the safety of travelers and prevent potential accidents. Commuters are asked to cooperate and plan their routes accordingly.

In another incident, four people were killed and three remain missing following a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Uttar Kannada district, according to a senior officer. The landslide occurred near Shirur village in Ankola Taluk on National Highway 66 on Tuesday.
