SpiceJet Overcomes Global Tech Outage, Ensures Seamless Operations

SpiceJet Airline has fully resolved a global technical outage, successfully maintaining all scheduled flights. Despite widespread disruptions in various sectors, SpiceJet's team worked tirelessly to minimize passenger inconvenience. The outage was linked to Microsoft's cloud services and impacted flight operations, but no SpiceJet flights were canceled.

On Friday, SpiceJet Airline announced that it has fully resolved a technical outage that had disrupted global operations earlier in the day. According to Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, the airline’s team worked relentlessly to ensure minimal disruption to passenger travel plans, successfully operating all scheduled flights.

Singh expressed gratitude for the understanding and cooperation of passengers and stakeholders, stating, 'The technical outage has been fully resolved, and all our systems are back to normal operations.' Despite the global challenge, SpiceJet remained committed to passenger convenience, maintaining regular flight schedules.

Importantly, not a single flight was canceled due to the outage. The widespread disruption, caused by issues in Microsoft's cloud services, affected numerous sectors including banking, financial services, and healthcare. In India, flight operations were among the most affected, forcing airlines to issue handwritten boarding passes and reschedule flights.

Union Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu assured travelers that the ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) managed the situation using manual methods to minimize the impact. The Reserve Bank of India noted that only minor disruptions affected 10 banks and NBFCs, which were either resolved or in the process of resolution.

Security firm CrowdStrike, linked to the software update that caused the outage, confirmed the issue was isolated and a fix deployed. George Kurtz, President and CEO of CrowdStrike, reassured that the event was not a cyberattack.
