The Lieutenant Governor's Office has expressed serious concerns over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's dietary intake while in jail. A letter from the LG's Office to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar cites a prison Superintendent's report revealing Kejriwal's instances of willful low-calorie intake despite the provision of sufficient home-cooked food.
The report indicates a notable weight loss, dropping from 63.5 kg to 61.5 kg between June 6 and July 13, 2024, signaling insufficient calorie consumption. The LG has urged prison authorities to ensure Kejriwal adheres to his prescribed diet and medical regimen, particularly given his Type-ll Diabetes Mellitus, stressing the importance of strict blood sugar level monitoring.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has reacted strongly, accusing the LG and BJP of endangering Kejriwal's life. AAP leaders Sanjay Singh and Atishi condemned the LG's actions, highlighting the severe risks associated with Kejriwal's fluctuating blood sugar levels. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has set August 7 for further hearings on the Enforcement Directorate's plea challenging a trial court's decision to grant bail to Kejriwal in an ongoing money laundering case.
