The Rouse Avenue Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Shambhu Sharan Ram, the father of a NEET UG 2024 aspirant entangled in an exam impersonation scandal. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the case. Special Judge Ankit Singla approved the bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 and one surety.

Abhishek Raj, Ram's son, allegedly had his exam taken by an impersonator named Keshav in Delhi. The CBI opposed the bail, stating that Raj is evading arrest. However, the court noted that the son's evasion does not justify arresting the father, who has now received anticipatory bail.

Additionally, the court granted interim protection from arrest to another accused, Bishu Kumar, for 30 days, requiring him to join the investigation. Kumar, believed to be the scheme's mastermind and Keshav's associate, is a 20-year-old medical student from Bihar. While Keshav has been arrested and bailed, the CBI has issued an NBW against Kumar for not joining the investigation, citing suspicious financial transactions.
