Mumbai Faces Torrential Downpour: Orange Alert Issued

Mumbai and its suburbs are expected to witness moderate-to-heavy rainfall today as the IMD issues an orange alert. The BMC reports occasional gusty winds and potential waterlogging. Citizens are advised to stay indoors unless necessary.

Mumbai is bracing for moderate-to-heavy rainfall today, encompassing both the city and its suburbs. Parts of Mumbai experienced rain earlier this morning.

Data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) indicates the likelihood of very heavy rain in some isolated areas. Winds could reach speeds of 45-55 kmph.

High tides are forecasted—a peak of 4.69 meters at 1:29 PM and another at 4.07 meters at 1:30 AM on Wednesday, July 24. The BMC reported average 24-hour rainfall figures of 59 mm in Central Mumbai, 51 mm in the Eastern Suburbs, and 43 mm in the Western Suburbs.

Mumbai has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past few weeks, prompting the Mumbai Police to issue an advisory urging citizens to avoid coastal areas. Residents are advised to leave their homes only if necessary and take precautions. Emergency services can be reached by dialing 100. The Mumbai civic authority reiterated the advice, following the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall.

“The IMD has issued an orange alert for Mumbai today. People are requested to stay indoors unless necessary,” stated the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Orange alerts have also been issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts in Maharashtra's Konkan region.
