With the water levels in the Godavari River rising, the main road in Burgampahad village of Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana, has been submerged and subsequently shut down by district authorities. The river reached 51.40 feet, causing overflow onto roads linking the village to Bhadrachalam and Chattisgarh.

Authorities have closed multiple inundated roads in the area. The critical thoroughfare was closed after being overwhelmed by floodwaters. On July 22, the water level in the river hit 48 feet at Bhadrachalam, prompting flood warnings from officials.

Bhadrachalam Revenue Divisional Officer issued a fax message to local authorities, including the ITDA Project Officer, District Magistrate, and Bhadradri Kothagudem Collector, urging them to take necessary actions. A second warning has been issued, with officials advised to act according to the flood manual.

'Godavari Floods 2024, Bhadradri Kothagudem District, Bhadrachalam Division & Mandal, Godavari Water Level reached 48 feet on July 22, 2024, at 2:09 pm. Second warning issued; forecast indicates further rise. All flood duty officers should take action as per the Godavari flood manual,' the Revenue Divisional Officer said. The rising waters in Godavari are attributed to upstream influx.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall across Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra over the next two days, with heavy to very heavy rains expected thereafter. Rainfall activity is also anticipated to intensify over the Indo-Gangetic plains in the coming days, according to the IMD. (ANI)
