Farmers Express Discontent Over Union Budget 2024-25

Farmers in Punjab have criticized the Union Budget 2024-25, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, alleging it neglects the farming sector. Despite a Rs 1.52 lakh crore allocation, farmers argue there is no provision for legal MSP guarantee or farm loan waivers, calling the budget directionless and disappointing.

Farmers in Punjab have voiced discontent with the Union Budget 2024-25, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, claiming it neglects the farming sector by not addressing the need for a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP).

The Budget included an allocation of Rs 1.52 lakh crore for agriculture and allied sectors, aimed at boosting research, promoting sustainable farming, and integrating technology. However, leaders from agricultural organizations, including Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), argue that the budget lacks necessary provisions such as MSP guarantees and farm loan waivers.

Farmers have criticized the budget as directionless and disappointing, emphasizing that it does not adequately support the agricultural sector's development needs. Protests continue as farmers push for their demands, including a legal MSP guarantee.
