Authorities have reported a tragic case involving a mother and her daughter, who kept the body of 13-year-old Tejas Jain in their Ghaziabad apartment for several days, mistakenly believing he was merely asleep. The harrowing story unfolded when neighbors complained about a foul odor emanating from the flat and alerted the police on Sunday.

Upon forcibly entering the premises, officers discovered Tejas lying lifeless on the floor, with his mother Komal Jain and sister Kavya, both reportedly mentally ill, sitting beside him. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sahibabad, Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyay, emphasized that the family had been living in isolation since Komal's husband passed away a decade ago.

The home was found in filthy condition, reflecting the family's dire living situation. An autopsy confirmed that septicemia was the cause of Tejas' death. The family's financial support came from Komal's brother, who resides in Delhi. The heart-wrenching incident sheds light on the accessible mental health support and community engagement for vulnerable families. The last rites for Tejas are scheduled for Wednesday.
