TMC Criticizes Union Budget 2024-25 for Neglecting Critical Issues

TMC MP Saugata Roy and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee criticized the Union Budget 2024-25, calling it unwise and politically motivated. They argued that the budget neglected issues like unemployment and inflation while heavily focusing on infrastructure investment. The Union Budget 2024-25 has come under sharp criticism from Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Roy, addressing the media on Tuesday, claimed that pressing issues such as unemployment and inflation were not addressed.

Roy labeled the budget as a 'tinkering budget,' arguing that its heavy emphasis on infrastructure investments would take too long to yield results. He further criticized the uneven allocation of funds to states, noting that only Andhra Pradesh and Bihar significantly benefited.

Echoing these sentiments, Chief Minister Banerjee termed the budget as 'politically motivated' and 'anti-people.' She accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making false promises during elections and neglecting areas such as Darjeeling post-election. Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, presenting her record seventh consecutive Union Budget, highlighted priorities in agriculture, employment, skilling, and infrastructure as key drivers for economic growth.
