As part of the Tripura Government's mission to create a drug-free state, Chief Minister Manik Saha has reaffirmed his commitment to encouraging the youth to pursue sports to steer clear of drug addiction. "Our government will not fall short in developing sports infrastructure. We are doing this to create a drug-free Tripura so that the younger generation stays drug-free and focuses on sports," affirmed the Chief Minister.
This vision extends beyond producing athletes, aiming to build a healthier, vibrant community. Through these initiatives, the Tripura government sets a precedent for leveraging sports to drive social change and inspire a new generation. During a recent event at the Umakanta Mini Stadium, the Chief Minister highlighted the latent talent among Tripura's youth.
"Since our childhood, we have seen that the boys and girls here are very talented," he remarked. Thanks to robust government support for sports, led by Prime Minister's special emphasis on this sector, Tripura is witnessing significant transformations in its sports infrastructure. The Umakanta Mini Stadium, where the Chief Minister once played, has been upgraded to a synthetic field, part of a broader initiative to develop similar fields at seven different locations in the state.
The Football Association's request for floodlights was fulfilled with a five crore rupees investment, enabling players to utilise the field at night and enhance their training opportunities. A new 400-meter synthetic track was recently inaugurated at Panisagar, along with the development of a swimming pool. These facilities are part of a comprehensive plan to nurture various sports disciplines in Tripura, already famed for its excellence in gymnastics.
The Chief Minister assured that the government would continue to focus on enhancing sports infrastructure. Among the most anticipated projects is the cricket stadium at Narsinghgarh, nearing completion. The community eagerly awaits the day when they can witness an international cricket match at home. These developments aim not just to boost sports but to drive the younger generation away from drugs by providing world-class facilities and opportunities, contributing to the mission of a drug-free Tripura.
