The Saket Court of Delhi has summoned YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in a defamation suit initiated by Suresh Karamshi Nakhua, a spokesperson for the Bhartiya Janata Party's Mumbai unit. The summons follows allegations that Rathee referred to Nakhua as a violent and abusive troll in a YouTube video.
The order, issued by District Judge Gunjan Gupta on July 19, 2024, also mandates the presence of social media intermediaries on August 6, 2024. Advocates Raghav Awasthi and Mukesh Sharma appeared on behalf of the plaintiff. The contentious video, titled "My Reply to Godi Youtubers | Elvish Yadav | Dhruv Rathee," has garnered over 24 million views and counting.
The suit claims that Rathee falsely accused Nakhua of being linked to violent troll activities, leading to severe damage to Nakhua's reputation. According to the suit, the video has incited widespread condemnation and ridicule, causing irreparable harm to both his personal and professional life.
