Tragic Leap: Engineer’s Struggles Highlight Financial Woes

A 38-year-old engineer named K Shriniwas, struggling with financial issues, allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu trans-harbour bridge in Mumbai. Police and rescue teams were searching for him. He had previously attempted suicide due to his financial struggles. Shriniwas spoke to his wife and daughter hours before the incident.

A 38-year-old engineer, under stress due to financial worries, allegedly jumped off the Atal Setu trans-harbour bridge here on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Search efforts were ongoing, an official reported late in the evening.

Identified as K Shriniwas, a resident of Dombivli, he reportedly jumped into the sea after parking his car on the Nhava Sheva end of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (also known as Atal Setu) around 12.30 pm, the official noted.

Navi Mumbai Police has launched an extensive search for him, enlisting the help of Atal Setu rescue teams, coastal police, and local fishermen, the official added.

Shriniwas left his home around 11.30 pm last night and contacted his wife and four-year-old daughter over the phone just hours before the incident, authorities revealed.

Family members reported that Shriniwas was grappling with serious financial issues, and had previously attempted suicide by drinking floor cleaner while working in Kuwait in 2023, according to the official.
