Farmers' Plight Under MSP Policy Sparks Debate

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has resulted in significant suffering for farmers, according to Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Singh Surjewala. During the Union Budget discussion, he criticized the budget for neglecting key issues and accused the government of failing to uphold its promises to farmers.

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) has turned into 'maximum suffering' for farmers, Congress Rajya Sabha member Randeep Singh Surjewala stated during a budget discussion on Thursday.

Surjewala accused the budget of being politically motivated to save the coalition government and appease allies. He argued the budget did not address concerns for farmers, youth, and the poor.

Citing examples, he highlighted the government's failure to uphold MSP promises and insufficient crop procurement. He also criticized unspent funds in agricultural schemes and rising input costs for farmers, urging the government to address unemployment and support the agricultural sector effectively.
