Nation Honors Heroes: 25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas

President Droupadi Murmu on Friday paid homage to the armed forces, lauding their 'courage and extraordinary valor' on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. In a post on X, President Murmu urged citizens to 'draw inspiration from the sacrifice and valor' of the soldiers.

'Kargil Vijay Diwas is an occasion for a grateful nation to pay tribute to the indomitable courage and extraordinary valor of our armed forces. I pay tribute to each soldier who made the supreme sacrifice while protecting Mother India on the peaks of Kargil in 1999 and bow in reverence to their sacred memory,' she wrote. 'I am confident that all countrymen will draw inspiration from their sacrifice and valor. Jai Hind! Jai Bharat!' she added.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also saluted the valor and dedication of soldiers, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised their 'unwavering commitment, valor, and patriotism' ensuring the nation's safety and security. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kargil to commemorate the event, with heightened security measures in place. The Prime Minister will also virtually commence the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, marks the success of Operation Vijay in 1999 when Indian forces reclaimed strategic positions in Kargil. The day is a tribute to the soldiers who fought tirelessly against Pakistani intruders in the peaks of Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
