In a move that has sparked significant political debate, Karnataka's Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil cited the aspirations and demands of the people and their representatives for the decision to merge Ramanagara district with Bengaluru South.

Speaking to ANI, Minister Patil emphasized, "The decision is driven by the aspirations and representations made by people’s representatives and people at large. It's about branding; Bengaluru is a powerful brand, and if the change benefits everyone, it's a positive move."

However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Pralhad Joshi criticized the decision, suggesting it reflects the Congress party's opposition to 'Ram.' Joshi claimed this renaming illustrates their resistance to the name 'Ram,' part of a broader pattern of conflict, including the construction of the Ram Mandir. He further alleged the move was politically motivated for vote bank politics and real estate interests. Joshi called on the government to withdraw the proposal, warning of local agitation by the BJP.

The Karnataka cabinet, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, officially approved the renaming on Friday. "The cabinet has approved the renaming of Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South district," announced Minister Patil at a press conference.
