Uttar Pradesh Government Uses Bulldozers to Clear Illegal Encroachments

The Uttar Pradesh administration on Saturday deployed bulldozers to demolish illegal encroachments in Mainpuri, asserting that the land originally belonged to the village society. Sub-district Magistrate Prasun Kashyap stated that some individuals had illegally occupied the land but the administration took decisive action.

'This land belonged to the village society and some people had illegally occupied it...today bulldozer action has been taken,' Kashyap said. The action has stirred political waters, with Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad questioning the electoral impact of such measures. Nishad highlighted concerns about the bulldozer being a 'terror for the mafias,' but cautioned about its use against poor residents without proper documentation.

Nishad shared an incident from Jaunpur where a woman's complaint against a local Pradhan led to retaliatory bulldozer action, demolishing her house. This discussion follows earlier directives from Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who instructed authorities in cities like Thane and Mira-Bhainder to demolish illegal constructions related to drug activity using bulldozers, reflecting a stringent stance on unauthorized developments.
