Call to Bring Back Netaji's Remains: A Plea from Chandra Kumar Bose

Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return Netaji's remains from Japan's Renkoji temple by August 18. He emphasizes the significance of performing the last rites in India according to Hindu traditions, as desired by Netaji's daughter.

Chandra Kumar Bose, the grandnephew of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, has made a heartfelt appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to repatriate the 'mortal remains of Netaji' from Japan’s Renkoji temple by August 18, the anniversary of Netaji's death. Chandra Kumar emphasized Netaji’s sacrifice on August 18, 1945, for India's freedom and reiterated the nation's longstanding request to have his remains brought back to India.

Bose highlighted that Netaji's only daughter, Anita Bose Pfaff, wishes to perform the last rites of her father in accordance with Hindu traditions. He noted that the Prime Minister had previously declassified secret documents related to Netaji, revealing that ten out of eleven inquiry reports confirmed his death on August 18, 1945, and that his remains were housed at Renkoji temple. But despite this evidence, the remains have yet to be repatriated.

Bose voiced his disappointment over what he described as a 'dishonour' to Netaji, arguing that his remains deserve to be in India. He called on Prime Minister Modi to make a clear statement on the issue, and if the remains are not to be brought back, to provide valid reasons. Bose added that the Renkoji temple authorities are willing to hand over the remains, underscoring that Subhash Chandra Bose, a pivotal figure in India’s independence, should have his final resting place in his homeland. Subhash Chandra Bose, the founder of the Azad Hind Fauj, was confirmed by the Central government in 2017 to have died in a plane crash in Taipei on August 18, 1945.
