The Border Road Organisation (BRO) and Uttarakhand police have successfully reopened the Gangotri National Highway near Netala, Helgugadh, and Sungar, initially blocked on Monday due to landslides and debris.
A social media post from the Uttarakhand Police on platform X confirmed the clearance, stating: 'The blocked Gangotri National Highway near Netala, Helgugad, and Sunagar has been cleared for traffic.'
Efforts are still underway near Bishanpur, where the BRO is working to clear remaining obstructions. Earlier disruptions included the washing away of the Shivanand Kutir Ashram gate at Gangotri Dham by the Bhagirathi river's strong current, resulting in the rescue of 10 trapped individuals.
A tragic incident in Ghansali led to the recovery of a woman’s body from under debris, while her daughter remains unaccounted for. This follows Thursday's clearing of the Badrinath road, blocked by similar conditions due to continuous rain.
Heavy rain in Uttarakhand has triggered numerous landslides, blocking critical highways and necessitating ongoing efforts by BRO and local authorities to ensure public safety. (ANI)
