Relief in Anantnag as Rain Brings Respite from Sweltering Heat

Residents and tourists in Anantnag, South Kashmir, welcomed rain after enduring several days of heat waves. Locals and visitors found relief in local water bodies, highlighting the severe heat's impact on the community and tourism. Concerns about global warming and future weather conditions persist.

Residents of South Kashmir’s Anantnag region sighed in relief on Monday when rain poured down, breaking a series of heat waves. Mohammad Arfiya, a local resident, stated, 'The rain has brought some relief to us. It has been very hot here these last couple of days. Even the tourists can roam around now.'

Tourist Archana Singh also expressed satisfaction, stating, 'The weather has improved today after the rain. We can finally enjoy roaming around.'

'The heat has inflicted heavy losses on the tourism industry. This is the first time Kashmir has experienced such intense heat. The change in weather will undoubtedly benefit the farmers as well,' noted Shahyuv, another Anantnag resident. Earlier on Sunday, locals and tourists sought respite from the extreme temperature in the cool waters of local ponds and canals. These natural retreats served as sanctuaries for those looking to escape the oppressive heat.

Speaking to ANI, another resident mentioned that due to global warming, people have increasingly turned to streams and ponds. 'This year it’s been very hot... Recently, it was 33°C here; we suffered a lot. Children and women haven’t been able to come out of their homes. I think there should be an extended summer vacation. Global warming forces people to seek relief in streams and ponds,' he said. 'We only pray for rain to reduce the heat. Global warming has been devastating horticulture, which is crucial here. I just pray for rain,' he further added.

Surrounded by lush greenery, canals, and ponds provide a picturesque setting, making these outings cherished moments of relaxation and bonding, integral to their summer traditions.
