A dispute erupted at Nirmala College in Kerala's Muvattupuzha after students demanded a prayer room for Friday prayers. The Syro-Malabar Public Affairs Commission has expressed support for the college principal, following student protests demanding space for religious activities.

The Public Affairs Commission emphasized that the demands are neither legally nor morally valid and called for an investigation into the motives behind the protests. They have requested government intervention to ensure safety and prevent further disruptions to the college's academic environment.

The Students' Federation of India (SFI) reiterated its stance on maintaining campus secularism. SFI denied any involvement in the protests and criticized false claims linking them to the controversy. College officials clarified that the demand was for a common prayer hall, not one specific to any religion, maintaining the institution's secular practice.
