The political blamegame over the Rajinder Nagar waterlogging tragedy, which claimed the lives of three students, has escalated with AAP leader Sanjay Singh criticizing the BJP's inaction during its 15-year tenure in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Singh highlighted long-standing infrastructure issues and the operation of coaching classes in unsafe building basements.
Singh stated, "Coaching classes and libraries have been running in basements for 25-30 years. The BJP was in power in the MCD for the last 15 years; why did the BJP not take action? Our mayor is now sealing such institutes." DCW Chairperson Swati Maliwal also called for strict action and accountability for the deaths of three UPSC aspirants.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi confirmed ongoing sealing drives in Old Rajinder Nagar, where 13 coaching centres were shut down. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj targeted AAP for negligence, requesting a Home Ministry investigation. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar agreed to discuss the issue, citing concerns about the commercialization of education. The Delhi Police have arrested the owner and the coordinator of the affected coaching centre, booking them for culpable homicide.
