Delhi Mayor Vows Crackdown on Illegal Coaching Centres After Tragic Flooding Incident

Following the tragic deaths of three students in a flooded basement of a coaching institute, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi assured action against illegal coaching centers. Sealing drives have commenced in Rajinder Nagar and Mukherjee Nagar. A high-level committee investigates the incident.

Three aspiring civil servants tragically lost their lives when their coaching institute's basement in Old Rajinder Nagar became flooded due to severe waterlogging. The dire incident, which happened following heavy rain on July 27, resulted in immediate action by Delhi's Mayor Shelly Oberoi.

Upon receiving news of the fatalities, Mayor Oberoi promptly visited the location, assessed the grim situation, and instructed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take stringent action against coaching centers operating illegally. This led to extensive sealing drives, with 13 centers already closed in Rajinder Nagar, and another six sealed subsequently.

A high-level committee, formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, is investigating the circumstances leading to the flooding and the tragic deaths. The committee aims to identify the culprits and suggest measures to avert similar occurrences. Meanwhile, both engineering personnel involved in the oversight have faced disciplinary action.
