Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has voiced deep sorrow following the devastating landslides that struck Kerala's Wayanad on Tuesday. The natural disaster, which occurred near Meppadi in the early hours, has already claimed four lives, with many others feared still trapped under the debris.

In a social media post, Gandhi conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and urged coordinated rescue efforts. He revealed that he had spoken with the Kerala Chief Minister and the Wayanad District Collector, who assured him of ongoing rescue operations. Gandhi emphasized the need for a control room to be set up to manage the relief efforts effectively.

Meanwhile, local medical facilities such as WIMS Medical College are treating 48 people who were injured in the landslide. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority confirmed that the landslides began around 3.49 am in Meppadi panchayat, Vythiri taluk. A robust team of 250 personnel from various emergency services is currently involved in rescue operations, with additional support on the way.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has instructed comprehensive coordination of rescue efforts, ensuring that the entire government machinery is actively engaged.
