Nitin Gadkari, the Road Transport and Highways Minister, has penned a letter to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman calling for the removal of the 18% GST on life and medical insurance premiums.

Gadkari's plea, backed by concerns from the Nagpur Division Life Insurance Corporation Employees Union, signals possible internal strife within the BJP, hinted Congress through a tweet by Jairam Ramesh.

The minister highlighted that taxing insurance premiums penalizes those seeking protection against life's uncertainties, further urging revisions including differential treatment for savings through Life Insurance and reintroducing tax deductions for health insurance premiums.
