Delhi's Tis Hazari court has dismissed the bail pleas of Manuj Kathuria, Tejinder, Harvinder, Parvinder, and Sarabjeet. The five were arrested after a drowning incident at a coaching center in Old Rajender Nagar. Judicial Magistrate Vinod Kumar made the decision after reviewing arguments from both the defense and Delhi police.
While denying bail to Manuj Kathuria, the judge noted that CCTV footage showed the driver speeding on a waterlogged road, causing water displacement that led to the premises' gate giving way. This resulted in water flooding the basement and the deaths of three individuals. The footage also indicated Kathuria ignored a passerby's warning about the danger ahead.
The court also considered the lease deed showing the basement's commercial use, violating occupancy certificates, and contributing to the tragedy. The accusations against the other defendants revolve around their joint ownership of the basement. The court emphasized the seriousness of the charges and pointed to an ongoing investigation by civic agencies. The bail pleas were dismissed due to the early stage of the investigation and the potential influence on witnesses.
