A woman and her child drowned after accidentally falling into a waterlogged drain in East Delhi's Ghazipur area following intense rainfall in the national capital. The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Tanuja and her three-year-old child, Priyansh, both residents of Prakash Nagar Khoda Colony in Ghaziabad.
Police reported receiving an emergency call on Wednesday evening at approximately 8:12 PM, notifying them of a woman and child drowning in a drain. Responding swiftly, officers reached the site to find that Tanuja and Priyansh had fallen into a waterlogged, semi-constructed drain while on their way to the weekly Budh Bazaar in the Ghazipur area.
The drain, measuring around 15 feet in depth and 6 feet in width, proved fatal. Police successfully recovered the bodies and are taking further legal action. Meanwhile, heavy rain in Delhi led to additional incidents, including a house collapse in Sabzi Mandi and extensive traffic congestion due to waterlogged roads.
