Venice Imposes New Tourist Caps to Combat Overcrowding

In a bid to tackle overcrowding, Venice has introduced new regulations capping tourist group sizes at 25 people. This decision, applauded by locals, also bans the use of loudspeakers by guides to ensure easier pedestrian flow and a more peaceful atmosphere for residents.

Venice-based tourism expert Sebastian Fagarazzi commented that while the new measures are a step in the right direction, they are far from sufficient. 'It's probably a good decision in that regard, but it's not going to be enough. Tourism in Venice has pushed out 72% of the inhabitants in the past 70 years,' he noted.

The restrictions, which extend beyond the city center to the islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello, were also well-received by tourists. 'Yeah, I think it's good. I mean, it's very, very congested in a lot of places,' said Mark Kerr, a visitor from Scotland, highlighting the urgent need for better crowd management strategies.
