India's Coal Output Rises by 6.69% in July

India's coal production increased by 6.69% to 74.07 million tonnes in July compared to the previous year. The cumulative coal dispatch in July 2024 was up by 4.58%. The coal ministry also issued vesting orders for 10 important coal mines to improve energy security and drive economic growth.

India's coal output surged by 6.69% year-on-year in July 2024, reaching 74.07 million tonnes (MT), according to a government statement on Thursday.

Last July, the country's production stood at 69.42 MT, the coal ministry noted. July's cumulative coal dispatch also saw robust growth, hitting 79.54 MT, an increase of 4.58% from 76.05 MT in July 2023.

Furthermore, the ministry announced vesting orders for 10 vital coal mines, marking a significant enhancement in the country's coal production capabilities. This initiative, encompassing one fully explored and nine partially explored sites, aims to bolster energy security and spur economic development across Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.

Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy appealed to successful bidders to escalate coal production and cut down on imports.
